Interview with William Butler
1:What's your favorite horror movie?
THE INNOCENTS starring Debra Kerr. Its a very scary movie without a single make up effect but very very scary.
2: How did you get in touch with Tom Fox?
Tom Fox asked to meet with me when I was producing at The Family
Channel of all places. He had heard that I had been in so many
horror films and had transitioned into writing. We were instantly
friends and started working together. I was so depressed for months
after he passed away. He was such a great guy who had tremendous
respect for the fans. Its a shame that the films turned out the
way the did. They were nothing like we imagined, though I liked parts
of the fifth installment.
3: How was Tom Fox like? (Beign a huge ROTLD fan, I always wanted to meet him personally)
Well, like I said he was a great
guy. We became friends and I spoke to him daily. He and his
wife became parental advisors to me there for a while. We used to
go to the movies and eat dinner and lunch. I really miss seeing them
both. When he was trying to revive the Return series we spent
months chatting with the fans trying to figure out what everyone
wanted. Things went in another direction when he passed away and
Aaron and I were cut loose from the projects.
4: Tobe Hooper was one of the potential directors. Why wasn't he used?
Tobe was attached but the funding took forever to get together and
eventually he was offered other projects. He is brilliant and we
loved the time that we spent with him.
5: What do you think of the first three ROTLD films?
Loved one - liked two - hated three.
6: Do you think there will ever be a ROTLD 6?
God only knows. I am sure there will be but it wont be with me. :) Too much of a good thing.
7: Anything else you would like to add?
2 plus 2 equals 4
